January's Musings

Crossing over to the Island
This is the bar that has the sign pictured at the end of this blog.

I do love the Gulf shores.

I had her move over so that my clubs would show!
It is near the end of January and I am reminiscing about Daisy’s second visit to my winter home here in southern Texas.  We had a fun time in Guam.  After returning to VA. Tech for a couple of weeks, she took her Christmas vacation in Kansas and Missouri first which was followed by an 11 day visit with me here in Texas. She got here just as the weather turned very warm and pleasant for her entire stay. The other folks here took that as a good sign and told her she can come back anytime and bring me as well.

I sure do like it here.  I stay at a multi-featured RV resort with full hook ups for my fifth wheel RV. The resort also includes an Olympic pool, volleyball pool and hot tub in addition to clubhouse for dances and a complete kitchen. It is a gated resort with limited access and located within reasonable distance to full scale grocery, shopping malls, quality regional medical facilities, airport hubs and golf courses.

and of course we ate here
and here too
Daisy’s first visit here last winter was a “fishing trip” for us to see if what we were feeling about our relationship was worthwhile pursuing. It was and we are.  Now we are just bidding our time until July when she will retire and join me fulltime as my traveling companion and wife.  We have set July 14, 2012 at 1:00 pm as the magic marriage date. More info will follow as we make the needed decisions.

I love that wild beach girl look.

While here, we spent almost all of our time doing couple activities. I think this is called the immersion technique to compatible couple--ness!

We dined on oysters on the half shell before spending a day at the beach on South Padre Island. We visited my old RV campground in Rio Hondo for a dance and a “meet and greet” Daisy opportunity for some Winter Texan friends of mine. We cooked together in the RV kitchen (not easy to do). We soaked in the pool and hot tub. We shopped across the border in Mexico. We danced the New Year’s night away within short walking distance of the RV.  We read a lot while relaxing in the warm sun--me with my Kindle and she with her Nook (we do have differing tastes).

We dance a lot....and we look good too...

Unfortunately the time went too quickly.  She returned to work one last season in the cold weather and I focused my time on improving my golf game and getting ready for the park talent show that I "volunteered" to participate in.  The talent show turned out to be a great success. As for my part in it, I sung as part of a rock and roll trio and folk song quartet. I presented an audience participative storytelling and closed up the show with a solo Louis Armstrong impression of "It’s a Wonderful World".  I had fun!  The line I heard more often than not was “I did not know you were so talented”.
Now there are two ways to take that!

Here is a short clip from a practice session.

Words to live by!
I am so glad I choose to dance.

This month is near over. Not that I am counting. but 6 more months until Daisy is able to retire and we can be together. Yea!
